On March 16,2011, pursuant to Article 59 of the Banking Law, the Governor of the National Bank, Petar Goshev, issued prior approval for the bank "Halk Bankasi" A.S. Republic of Turkey, with its main office in Ankara (Turkiye Halk Bankasi A.S.) for acquiring 91.56% of the total number of shares of the "Export and Credit Bank" AD Skopje.
„Halk Bankasi" intends to purchase the shares from the current shareholders of "Export and Credit Bank" AD Skopje: "DHB Bank", the Netherlands, which owns 27,869 shares, i.e. 66.56% and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, London, which owns 10,468 shares, i.e. 25% of the total number of the Banks' shares.
"Halk Banksa" A.S., the Republic of Turkey, has been founded in 1938. It is present on the markets in Turkey, the Netherlands, Germany, Cyprus, Bahrain and Iran.
At the end of 2010, the total assets of "Halk Bankasi" A.S., the Republic of Turkey, equaled Euro 35,408 million and according to its size, it is positioned on the seventh place on the market in the Republic of Turkey. In 2010, it realized a gain of Euro 976 million. The Bank employs a total number of 13,450 persons.
The Privatization Agency, which is part of the Government of the Republic of Turkey owns 75% of the shares of "Halk Bankasi", while the remaining 25% of the shares are quoted freely on the market.
The main objective of "Halk Bankasi" A.S., the Republic of Turkey, as potential dominant shareholder of "Export and Credit Bank" AD Skopje, is to enlarge its market share and contribute to the widening and improvement of the financial services quality which are offered on the market in the Republic of Macedonia..
