Reporting agents

Banks, savings houses, payment institutions, electronic money institutions and payment system operators (in accordance with the Law on Payment Services and Payment Systems) submit data or information for statistical purposes through an electronic application, to the National Bank.

Regulation

1. Law on Payment Services and Payment Systems (Official Gazette of the Republic of North Macedonia No. 90/22 and 64/24) (hereinafter: the Law)

2. Decision on the contents, the manner, the form and the deadlines for submission and publication of data and information on payment statistics (Official Gazette of the Republic of North Macedonia No. 12/23) (hereinafter: Decision)

3. Instructions on submitting payment statistics data and information (Official Gazette of the Republic of North Macedonia No. 208/23) (hereinafter: Instructions)

2. Terms, definitions and types of data

The terms and definitions are contained in the Law, the Decision and the Instructions and are significantly adjusted to the requirements of the Regulation on payments statistics No. 2020/59 of the European Central Bank. The reporting agents submit data on payment accounts, payment cards, payment card accepting devices, payment transactions by type of payment services, payment transactions by type of payment card accepting device as well as the amount of the fee for the service of the seller.

3. Data processing

Data submitted by reporting agents are processed by the National Bank and are published in aggregate form, by observing the principle of confidentiality of the individual data, submitted by each of the reporting agents.

4. Integrity

The reporting agents submit monthly and annual data and information to the National Bank which are controlled by the National Bank and in case of major deviations and illogicalities compared to the previous month or year, the reporting agents are obliged to submit additional information and explanations for the reasons for the deviations.

5. Data revision

Data are revised in case of obtaining new, corrected information and data from the reporting agents, as well as in case of methodological changes in the terms and definitions.

6. Time series and data frequency

Data from January 2005 to December 2023, published in accordance with the applicable methodology, are available on the web site of the National Bank, under payment statistics on the following link Archive of payment statistics data and information for the period from January 2005 to December 2023.

Starting from 1 January 2024, the reporting agents for the first time will submit data and information in accordance with the Law, the Decision and the Instructions.

7. Publishing

The National Bank publishes the monthly data within 90 days from the end of each quarter, i.e. the annual data within 90 days from the end of the year in aggregate form on its web site in accordance with the Calendar for publication of payment statistics data, with the exception of certain defined data that are used only for analytical purposes of the National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia
