The Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, Anita Angelovska Bezhoska took active participation in the discussion held today within the high-level Conference " Fostering Economic Growth through Human Capital Development in the Western Balkans ", organized by the Ministry of Finance and the World Bank. The Governor emphasized the importance of the human capital in providing sustainable and inclusive economic growth. She pointed out the problems the region faces with, especially with regard to the reduction of workforce - a problem which can become even more pronounced in the next period, given the increased emigration and demographic aging.

However, the Governor Angelovska Bezhoska emphasized the need to perceive not only the quantity, but also the quality of labor, i.e. its skills, knowledge and value. By comparing indicators of human capital measurement, she pointed to the weaknesses that exist in the region, given the fact that especially the Southeast European countries, including the Republic of Macedonia, are positioned relatively low in terms of the workforce quality, which undoubtedly indicates the need of taking measures in order to overcome these weaknesses.
