In the occasion of the constitutive session of the Dean's Office of the Institute for Business and Management, Heidelberg - Skopje, a debate forum on the topic "Perspectives for Young People from the Full Membership of the Country in NATO and EU- Impacts on Monetary Policy, Business and the Capital Market“ was held on October 18, 2018. On this forum, the Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, Anita Angelovska Bezhoska, delivered a speech focusing on the effects of the accession process and the entry into the European Union on the monetary policy and operations of the central bank. In her speech, the governor pointed to the importance of the European Union as an institutional, economic and political anchor for the entire region.

In doing so, she referred to two aspects. The first aspect is the question of the impact of EU membership on the economy as a whole, and hence the challenges that we could face as one of the makers of macroeconomic policies. The second aspect addresses the issue of the effects of membership in the monetary union, since economic integration is a step towards monetary integration and the adoption of the euro as the single currency. In the end, the governor concluded that the challenges for the central bank from this process are multidimensional - macroeconomic, institutional and operational. For faster integration and real convergence, strong institutional capacity and awareness of all policy makers are necessary for the need of prudent economic policies that will enable effective utilization of the great benefits offered by the membership in the European Union.
