Skopje, 27 March 2025
The National Bank, the Ministry of Finance, the Securities Exchange Commission, the Agency for the Supervision of Fully Funded Pension Insurance and Insurance Supervision Agency, in cooperation with the associations and private and civil sector institutions, which are actively engaged in the field of financial education, will mark Global Money Week next week, for the thirteenth consecutive year. Global Money Week is traditionally marked through lectures intended for different age groups, publication of financial educational materials on websites, holding workshops with physical presence or online, publication of educational content on social networks.
The theme of this year's Global Money Week is: "Think before you follow, wise money tomorrow". The theme addresses the complexity of modern digital financial trends, the emergence of people who give advice on financial investments (so-called "finfluencers") and the increasing use of artificial intelligence in determining the reliability of financial information and advice, especially for young people. Furthermore, emotional bias and behavior, especially the mentality of the crowd, can encourage poor financial decisions under peer pressure or under the influence of social media.
In this context, it is of enormous importance for young people to develop good money management skills, recognize emotional triggers, and acquire a critical approach to information sources. Strengthening financial literacy can help young people to navigate better the financial markets, resist and recognize biased advice, leading to smarter financial decisions. Therefore, the theme of this year's Global Money Week encourages young people to be extremely cautious when making financial decisions and using modern technologies in the financial sector.
As part of the celebration of Global Money Week, the National Bank will organize several lectures for primary and secondary school students, preschool children and university students. At the same time, questions will be published on a daily basis within the educational quiz on the National Bank's social networks. In cooperation with the High School Students' Union, a workshop with high school students will be held. At the same time, the National Bank will organize a webinar for primary and secondary school teachers, who will attend a presentation as well as discussion on the topic of Global Money Week. Therefore, we invite teachers to register for participation in the webinar, and then to hold dedicated presentations for their students, thus contributing to enlarge the scope of the students involved. The National Bank took part in the activities of the association for networking of successful women "I am a woman", i.e. it participated in the lecture at a secondary economic school and in a panel discussion on cyber security that will be held within the framework of the Women's Economic Forum. The National Bank, by participating in both organization and jury, supports also the national competition of the European Money Quiz 2025, which will be held during Global Money Week (the first round on 1 April and the second round on 4 April 2025).
Worldwide, the Global Money Week has been celebrated since 2012, with the sole interruption in 2020 due to the pandemic, whereby it is being organized by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This global initiative, which has so far been celebrated in more than 176 countries and that covers 60 million children and young people, raises the awareness of young people about financial education and increases their knowledge of money, savings, employment and entrepreneurship.
