The National Bank has achieved significant results in advancing its operations with the support of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). By implementing a series of projects supported by the IMF, it has managed to bring the country's monetary policy to a level that is highly rated by international institutions. It is evident that the cooperation between the National Bank and the IMF is successful. These are some of the recommendations resulting from the meeting of the National Bank Anita Angelovska Bezhoska and the Minister of Finance Nina Angelovska, with the IMF Deputy Managing Director Tao Zhang, held in Skopje. The meeting was also attended by the IMF High Representative for Western Balkans, Stephanie Eble.

At the meeting, the emphasis was put on the Concluding Statement of the IMF staff, which has visited our country recently for the purpose of conducting regular annual monitoring of the Macedonian economy. As emphasized, the estimations that the monetary policy is appropriate and that the banking system is healthy, well capitalized and liquid are proof for the successful accomplishment of the National Bank objectives. It was once more emphasized that the National Bank has adequately used the favorable conditions to increase the foreign reserves. When commenting on the situation in the banking system, it was pointed out that the current activities for its consolidation will contribute to its further consolidation and improvement of its efficiency.
Attention was also paid to the need of further strengthening of the financial stability framework, which, according to the IMF, remains a priority. At the same time, it was jointly concluded that it is very important and positive that the activities aimed at strengthening the supervisory and regulatory framework and that a regulation is being prepared, which will strengthen the macro-prudential mandate of the National Bank and enable better systemic risk assessment in the banking system.
In the second part of the meeting, the focus was put on further enhancement of the cooperation of the National Bank and the Ministry of Finance with the IMF. Zhang, Eble and Angelovska Bezhoska also discussed the possibilities of IMF support for further enhancement of the National Bank's operations, through technical and advisory cooperation in several areas of central banking, which were also discussed at the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group in Washington.
