The National Bank independence is crucial for maintaining its high credibility in the public, as well as for the implementation of policies to maintain price and financial stability. The National Bank has been dedicated to reaching higher level of transparency in all its operating segments, for the purposes of maintaining the high public trust it enjoys. This was pointed out in the meeting between Governor Anita Angelovska Bezhoska and Michalis Rokas, EU Ambassador to our country, emphasizing that the monetary policy is highly aligned with the EU acquis, as stated in the Commission’s latest progress report.
Governor Angelovska Bezhoska highlighted that the central bank has continued to conduct a prudent monetary policy aimed to ensure price stability. The National Bank will also continue to apply measures and regulatory requirements to strengthen the banking system resilience and to build its institutional capacities to better respond to the global trends and challenges.

The ambassador greeted the National Bank’s efforts in managing the application procedure for the country's membership in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). Taking into account the high level of compliance of the legal framework, a positive assessment is expected which will allow our country to join SEPA soon.
Governor Angelovska Bezhoska and the EU Ambassador Rokas also discussed several topics relevant for the EU dialogue with the Western Balkan countries, conducted on the basis of the 2024-2026 Economic Reforms Program submitted by the candidate countries.
