Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the National Bank releases high quality statistics in line with the highest international standards met by only 26 countries in the world. The first release of financial account statistics at the end of last year is of paramount importance. It is worth noting that the National Bank delivered the statistical surveys without any delay, while maintaining high quality.
These are some of the findings from the meeting held between part of the National Bank team and the team of the IMF Statistics Department within the IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings.
As emphasized, it is crucial that our central bank is among the institutions that deliver statistical surveys. It not only continued delivering surveys during the crisis, but also made methodological improvements and introduced new and more detailed data. This is important because the need for more granular data is increasing every day, and in future, they could be provided only by institutions that are ready to follow the new standards and practices in delivering statistical surveys. In that context, they also discussed the further challenges posed to the statistics, taking into account the IMF perceptions.
At the meetings held within these Spring Meetings, it was concluded that the cooperation between the National Bank and the IMF at the expert operational level is excellent, and areas of potential further cooperation were discussed. So far, the National Bank has received technical assistance from the IMF in six areas.
