Skopje, 7 September 2023
"Financial education and financial inclusion, with particular attention to the young population, are priority of the National Bank. Thus, the National Bank has supported several initiatives in this field, including the participation in the International Economic Olympiad, and is especially pleased when young people stand out with remarkable knowledge in international competitions", said Governor Anita Angelovska Bezhoska at today’s meeting with high school students, this year's participants in the International Economic Olympiad and professors Aneta Gacovska-Barandovska and Stevo Gjorgiev from the Institute of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Skopje, who coordinated the team's preparations.
Governor Angelovska-Bezhoska sent her hearty congratulations to the bronze medal winner, David Stavrov from PHS Algoritam, Skopje, as well as to Rina Toleva and David Arsovski from SEPUGS Vasil Antevski-Dren, Skopje, who were part of our team that participated in the Economic Olympiad in Volos, Greece. The University of Thessaly from Volos organized the Sixth International Economic Olympiad, held from 25.07. to 02.08.2023 and hosted 50 teams from 48 countries in the world. Students competed in three parts: an economics test, a financial literacy game, and a business study. It is an encouraging fact that among the large number of leading economies in the world, we were ranged twenty-second.
The National Bank took an active part in the preparatory activities of the students for participation in the Olympiad. The central bank activities, more precisely the series of lectures for the students in our team, the presentations for supplementing knowledge and the answers to various modules, exercises and educational games, are part of the cooperation between the central bank and the Union of Mathematicians, for which A Memorandum of Cooperation has also been signed. Financial education is also one of the strategic priorities of the National Bank which is embedded in the Strategy for Financial Education and Financial Inclusion adopted by the financial regulators, led by the National Bank.
