Having in mind the need of providing detailed and comprehensive financial instruments data, the National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia started publishing new statistical data on the debt securities indicator. This indicator shows the financial links between the sectors of the national economy, as well as between the sectors of the national economy and the foreign sector, based on debt securities

The preparation and publication of these data have increased the set of available statistical data in line with international and European statistical standards, which will be published on the National Bank's website on a regular basis. Thus, the economic policymakers, as well as the general public, are made available a detailed standardized review, prepared according to the "whom-to-whom" principle, on the balance of debt securities by institutional sectors' holders and issuers of securities.

The data are prepared with quarterly dynamics and refer to the balance at the end of each quarter, on a non-consolidated basis, denominated in local currency (in millions of denars). A time series of data for the period from the first quarter of 2016 to the second quarter of 2022 has been published on the website of the National Bank, as well as brief methodological explanations containing more detailed information on the definition, scope, international standards, sectorization, data sources and valuation of debt securities. 

The development of the debt securities indicator is another step of the National Bank towards providing the necessary additional indicators within the highest statistical standard for data dissemination SDDS plus of the International Monetary Fund. The National Bank met this standard in 2019, joining the group of 18 countries in the world that meet it.
