Skopje, 4 August 2023 

In order to strengthen the financial literacy of the population of all age categories and profiles, the National Bank undertakes initiatives and activities in several fields, including the support through preparation of our students - representatives at the International Economics Olympiad, from whom the student David Stavrov won a bronze medal. The International Economics Olympiad is a prestigious international competition in economics for high school students, which is being held from 2018 onwards, and this year it was held from 25 July to 2 August 2023 in Greece. The purpose of this event is to strengthen the knowledge of students in the field of economics through a competition, and to encourage the competitive spirit and the international connection of young people. 

Our representatives at this year’s Olympiad, besides Stavrov, who is a 4th year student at the PHS Algoritam, Skopje, are also Stefanija Kuzmanovska, 3rd year at the Mathematical and Informatics High School, Skopje; Rina Toleva, 4th year at the SELSCS Vasil Antevski-Dren, Skopje and David Arsovski, 4th year at the SELSCS Vasil Antevski-Dren, Skopje. These students achieved the best results at the State Economics Olympiad, which was held on 31 May 2023, intended to encourage and deepen the knowledge of young people in the field of economics, finance, business and the application of mathematical models in the economy.

The National Bank actively participated in the preparatory activities of the students to participate in the Olympiad, by giving a series of lectures for the students on the premises of the central bank: To Become Familiar with the National Bank, Monetary Policy, Personal Finance, Payment Instruments - Modern Payment Methods, Analysis of Economic Indicators with Particular Reference to the Gini Coefficient, as well as additional presentations upon the students’ request for increasing their knowledge and answering the various modules of exercises and educational games for the Olympiad. These lectures are part of the Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of financial education, for the purposes of the International Economics Olympiad, signed between the National Bank and the Union of Mathematicians. The goal of the cooperation with the Union is to discover, support and encourage the competitive spirit of students with a special talent and knowledge in the field of economics, finance and business.
