Skopje, 1 April 2025
On the basis of the regular quarterly assessment of systemic risks, which includes data for the last quarter of 2024, including the latest available data, the National Bank Council adopted a decision not to change the rate of the countercyclical capital buffer for banks’ exposure to clients from the country, i.e. to keep it at 1.75% of the risk-weighted assets in the second quarter of 2026. The rate prescribed by the national macro-prudential authority will apply for exposures to other countries.
According to the latest quarterly calculations, the main indicator value shows no signs of credit cycle overheating. However, both, corporate and household lending accelerated, more pronounced in the corporate sector. The housing prices registered a volatile dynamics, with an average increase of 10%. According to all indicators, the banking system remains stable with stable and good solvency and liquidity, solid profitability and low non-performing loans rate, with a limited materialization of credit losses in the loan portfolio. On the other hand, risks arising from the environment become more pronounced, especially the geopolitical risks which result in upward inflation risks. In conditions of more pronounced risks, the monetary policy remains prudent.
The National Bank has increased the countercyclical capital buffer rate on several occasions, providing our banking system with a solid amount of Tier II capital on this basis, thus strengthening bank’ resilience.
The National Bank will continue to carefully monitor the systemic risks and will reassess the rate of the countercyclical capital buffer on a regular quarterly basis.
