The National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia informs the public that in cooperation with the De Nederlandsche Bank and Banko de Portugal will host the Tenth Jubilee Conference for Payments and Market Infrastructures: Drivers of European Payments Integration - Innovations and Cooperation, which will be held in Ohrid, from 5 to 7 July 2017.
The Conference which has had an international character for many years, in this jubilee year is enriched with the presence of high representatives from the European Union i.e European Central Bank, central banks which belong to the European System of Central Banks and the European Commission. Also, representatives of the international financial institutions will participate at the conference i.e. from the Bank for International Settlements and World bank, as well as International Central Securities Depository Euroclear and Commerzbank.
To our great pleasure, Mr Yves Mersch, Executive Board member of the European Central Bank in charge of the payment area issues in the European Union will address the Conference. Also, Mr Klaas Knot, Governor of De Nederlandsche Bank and Mr Hèlder Rosalino, Board Member of the Banco de Portugal, leaders of the institutions with whom we have been implementing this project for many years will also address the tenth jubilee conference.
The large number of representatives from 19 central banks testifies about the quality, tradition and recognition of this conference, not only in the region but also in Western, Central and Eastern Europe, The Commonwealth of Independent States, The Middle East and North Africa.
The conference will cover topics through which the lecturers will address the innovations in the payments area, financial technology, digital currencies, payment security, development of the infrastructure for securities settlement, as well as the new payment area regulation of the European Union. On the last day of the conference, despite the addresses of the high central bank representatives, a panel discussion will be organized where governors, board members of the central banks and prominent experts will discuss on how households, companies and governments will pay in 2025 in their economies i.e. will they rather use digital banking and digital technology than cash.
