On 14 November 2016, at the invitation of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, a one-day visit of Mr Aurel Schubert, Director General of the Statistics Department at the European Central Bank, was organized.
During the visit, Mr Schubert gave a lecture on "The Challenges Associated With the Growing Importance of Central Bank Statistics for Economic Policy in the Post-Crisis Period".
The lecture was attended by representatives of banks and other financial institutions (being active reporters of statistical data to the National Bank), representatives of chambers of commerce, the State Statistical Office, academia, as well as employees of the National Bank. The topic of the lecture rose significant interest among the participants, followed by an open floor for questions and discussion.
Dr. Aurel Schubert has spent most of his working life in the Central Bank of Austria, holding several positions, while as of mid-2010 he was appointed as Director General, Statistics Department, European Central Bank. He is an author of several publications in the field of monetary policy and history, as well as in the area of central bank statistics through the prism of the European economic integration. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Statistics Committee of the European System of Central Banks and Member of the Executive of the Irving Fisher Committee on Central Bank Statistics.
