Processing of data on natural persons who submit banknotes and coins unfit for circulation and withdrawn from circulation aims to identify the person who withdraws the money, i.e. to confirm that the person who submitted the money to the National Bank for replacement is the same person who collects it. The purpose is also to have an insight into the persons and the quantities of cash submitted to the National Bank, the quality and the manner of damage, as well as to provide information about the person who submitted it, if determined that the money originates from criminal activities or are counterfeits, or it is money that has been subject to further intervention. By recording the quantities, there is a trace of the larger amounts brought, which may have been the subject of investigation by other government authorities.
The National Bank processes the following categories of personal data:
- name and surname;
- ID card or passport number;
- issuer;
- denomination, quantity and amount of funds; and
- contact phone.
The data are kept for 5 years.
