Currently, the National Bank does not have the authority to regulate the creation, possession or trading in cryptoassets by domestic economic agents. It has no oversight role in relation to cryptoassets, regardless of whether they are acquired through a process of so-called mining, or they are investments.
At the moment, the National Bank has no activities for issuing its own digital currency (digital denar). The National Bank issues the denar as a sovereign currency in the Republic of North Macedonia and through continuous fulfillment of its main objective - maintaining price stability, directly enables the Macedonian denar to have the three characteristics of a sovereign currency - medium of exchange, unit of account and store of value.
