Borce Trenovski, PhD


Prof. BORCE TRENOVSKI [1981] is Macedonian Economist, currently holds the position of Professor in the Department of Economics at the Faculty of Economics, University of “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje.  He graduated with distinction on the Faculty of Economics at the University of “Ss. Cyril and Methodius”- Skopje, completed postgraduate studies in the field of Monetary Economics, and in September 2013 completed Ph.D. studies with a doctoral dissertation - “The key macroeconomic policies in terms of the contemporary economic crisis”. 

He is author of 4 BOOKS, published over 160 publications (119 indexed scientific papers and policy papers, 49 research monographs) and has strong academic and expert visability in the recent years.

 Аs an economic expert  Trenovski participated in over 100  projects in the country and the region, supported by various organizations  UNDP, USAID, IRI, EU, EBRD, World Bank, Swiss Development Agency, ILO, GIZ, OSI, NDI, WFD etc. 

Trenovski contributed to the development of over 40 national and local strategic documents and legislation in the country/region, also having a crucial role as the key expert for the creation of the highest national strategic document (National Development Strategy 2024-2044), highlighting a profound contribution to shaping the strategic landscape of the country.  

Furthermore, as lecturer/trainer he implemented more than 90 trainings for which he has developed specialized modules and managed to gain strong experience in liaising and co-operating with different stakeholders (ministers, mayors, members of parliament, state auditors, inspectors, civil society organizations, municipal councilors, businesses, students, public administration etc.).

Prof. Trenovski as an economist/economic analyst also has strong public visibility - more than 500 interviews, TV appearances, expressed views, written texts in newspapers and professional magazines in the country and the region.

Number of his analyses, research, publications and project participations in the last years were strongly focused on economic policy reforms, coordination of fiscal and monetary policy, contemporary economic theories and policies, efficiency of public financial management, monetary policy and financial markets, fiscal policy and taxation, development economics,  public policy, labor economics, environmental economics, good governance, monetary and fiscal transparency/accountability, local finances and decentralization etc.

As part of his academic, scientific, research and project activities, Trenovski is also part of numerous internationally organized study visits, conferences, academic lectures in number of countries - USA, Finland, Italy, Albania, Turkey, Slovakia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Austria, Greece, Germany, Spain, etc. He also has participated in numerous international trainings and education programs organized by international institutions - IMF, World Bank, University of Illinois at Chicago, U.S. State Department, UNDP. ATTF Luxembourg etc.

Prof. Trenovski as a result of his work and experience is member of numerous professional bodies/associations/reform and advisory working groups such  as : Member of the Council of the Center for Strategic Research at the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (2022-2026); Honorary member of the South and Eastern Europe Market Technicians Association – SEEMT; Member of the Council of the Alliance for Gender Equality in the Workplace; Member of the highest governing body of the Central Bank in North Macedonia - Council of The National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as Member of the Operational Monetary Policy Committee at the National Bank (2021-2028) etc..

Furthermore, Prof. Trenovski is winner of several awards and recognitions as Reputable Economist and Best researcher: First prize for the best research in the field of macroeconomics, granted by the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia (2014); Winner of the highest award at the University "St. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje for the Best Scientist and Researcher and for showing exceptional results in the scientific research activity in the field of social sciences and humanities (2020); Best Economist with exceptional  contribution in the field of the Economics, awarded by the Association of Managers of Macedonia (2017); World Bank Award (First prize) for research in the area of determining the factors to ensure that economic growth benefits all citizens and the main challenges to ensure the sustainability of economic growth (Systematic Country Diagnostic) etc.
