In the first quarter of 20206, the citizens payment order payments grew by 10.3% in the number and 14.6% in the value of executed payment transactions. The increase in the electronically-based payments is particularly pronounced, meaning ad increase of 21.9% in the number of transactions and 23% in the value, compared to the same period of 2025.
Most of the electronically initiated payment transactions during the analyzed period were executed via mobile applications (72.8), amid registered annual growth of 25.9%, thus confirming the dominance of the mobile phone as the fastest and the simplest payment method.
The positive trends continued also in card-based payments. The number of card payments surged by 12.2%, while their value by 14.5%. The increase in the number of payments is driven primarily by the payment transactions via internet, of 18.7%, as well as by POS payments. The increase in the digital payments is also underpinned by introduction of new payment solutions of the banks, which enable simplified and faster payment via mobile devices, without physical use of payment card. Digital cards participate with 17.9% in the total number of issued payment cards in the country, while on average, 4 mobile phone transactions are made through each digitized card in the country, which indicates a continuous increase in the use of mobile payments and a change in citizens' habits in favor of using the benefits of digitalization.
The above data confirms that the digitalization of payment services continues to progress, with electronic payments and payment cards playing an increasingly important role in the daily financial activities of citizens.
