
The purpose of the Financial Literacy Days is to strengthen financial education, to foster financial inclusion and to increase awareness and the protection of consumers of financial services. This was highlighted at today's initial event on the occasion of the Financial Literacy Days, organized before the plateau of the Ministry of Finance. At the event, the institutions of the Coordinating Body for Financial Education and Financial Inclusion - the National Bank, the Ministry of Finance, the Insurance Supervision Agency, the Securities and Exchange Commission and MAPAS participated with info-desks. Banks, insurance companies, savings houses and other financial companies, that supported the action, also participated.
The Governor of the National Bank, Anita Angelovska Bezhoska, emphasized that the central bank undertakes a series of activities for expanding the knowledge of the younger generations, but also of the older population. “Within this year’s edition of this already traditional event, the National Bank will implement a concept more different from the previous ones - a concept of open doors for all interested citizens. Namely, in the next three days, within the Financial Literacy Days, the National Bank will give informative and educational presentations to the adult population on part of its key functions: monetary policy, banking system and payment system and payment services. All interested citizens will be able to visit the information desk in the National Bank in order to receive answers to the questions that are in the field of central banking operations” - said Angelovska Bezhoska.
Otherwise the activities of the institutions for the Financial Literacy Days continue also in the next few days. The National Bank will have an info-desk until Friday, from 10 am to 1 pm. The branches in part of the banks in the country, as well as the savings houses, will also have information desks on the occasion of the Financial Literacy Days. For the first time, banks and savings houses will have such desks in various cities across the country, which will provide a better coverage of the population.
The Minister of Finance, Dragan Tevdovski, emphasized that activities are being undertaken for financial education of different target groups. "The past period covered several primary and secondary schools, but professional lectures were also held in the faculties. We are undertaking activities for greater financial inclusion. For that purpose, we are preparing the Law on Payment Systems and Payment Services in cooperation with the National Bank. It provides for the introduction of a payment account with basic functions, which can be opened by every citizen. Also, the Law will provide solutions that will lead to liberalization of the payment services market” - said the Minister of Finance Tevdovski and pointed out that the Ministry undertakes measures for consumer rights protection by giving advice on the safe use of financial services.
The President of the KHV, Nora Aliti, announced that the citizens will be able to inform themselves in the next three days also on a desk that will be placed in the Commission. "In the next three days, there will be an info-desk placed before the plateau of the head office of the Commission, where all citizens will be able to access and receive answers to all the questions they have about the work of the regulator on the securities market, the financial instruments, the shareholder rights protection. This campaign also includes the Macedonian Stock Exchange, the Central Securities Depository, the brokerage houses, the departments that work with securities in the banks, as well as the investment fund management companies that will be open for the citizens in the next three days” - said Aliti.
The President of the Council of Experts of the Agency for Supervision of Fully Funded Pension Insurance - MAPAS, Maksud Ali, emphasized that they, as an institution responsible for the Financial Literacy Days, sent a public call to the citizens for open days in this institution. "From tomorrow, all citizens will be able to inform themselves of issues related to fully funded pension insurance on the premises of MAPAS, but also with the pension companies” - he said.
The President of the Council of Experts of the Insurance Supervision Agency (ISA), Klime Poposki, emphasized that the ISA, since its establishment, has been making efforts to promote financial literacy, organize financial educational activities, produce informative brochures and interactive games for children through which they will gain more knowledge in the area of insurance.
The info-desks at today's initial event were visited by over 300 students from primary and secondary schools, as well as a large number of interested citizens.
