Speech of the Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, Petar Goshev, M.Sc. - Promotion of a gold coin - Krste Petkov Misirkov
Honorable Mr. President of the Republic of Macedonia
Distinguished academicians,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia celebrates this important anniversary of the Republic of Macedonia - the centennial of its statesmanship, by issuing a series of 11 gold coins. The front of 10 of them is ornamented with the figures of 10 famous persons of the Macedonian history, whose works marked the Macedonian 20th century in various ways and which were incorporated in the foundations of the present independent and sovereign Macedonia.
Today, we promote the gold coin dedicated to the great intellectual, linguist and patriot Krste Petkov Misirkov, thus joining the celebration of the 100th anniversary from publishing its historically important work Za Makedonckite Raboti.
The issuance of this jubilee gold coin, the front of which is adorned with the portrait of Misirkov, and the reverse is decorated with the book “Za Makedonckite Raboti”, is an act expressing our high esteem to one of the most distinguished intellectual figures in the Macedonian history. The work of Misirkov, even today after all those years, is an inspiration and challenge for all of us to perpetually return and discover all his dimensions and connotations. We do not cease being thrilled of his uncompromising nature to be persistent and faithful to its vision for the future of his people and its language.
Therefore, in the year that celebrates the most enlightening dates of our history, I find this promotion of the gold coin dedicated to Krste Petkov Misirkov an appropriate manner in which the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia solemnly adds to the celebration of the valuable work of this famous Macedonian author.
The National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia will continue issuing such jubilee gold coins decorated with the figures of the persons which left non-erasable trails in the Macedonian history. This is not only a civilization act of expressing respect to them, but also our obligation to keep what is the most important in our inheritance for the generations to come, so that they can remember “what we have done and what should we do in the future”.
