By exchanging letters of cooperation, Anita Angelovska Bezhoska, National Bank Governor and Marco Buti, Director General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission concluded a Cooperation Arrangement on protecting euro coins against counterfeiting. Pursuant to the provisions of the Arrangement, the cooperation will include exchange of technical, statistical and administrative information related to counterfeit euro coins detected on the territory of our country.
The Arrangement, inter alia, requires from the National Bank to submit to the European Commission notifications as well as quarterly reports with statistics on counterfeit euro coins detected. As specified in the Arrangement, the European Commission will provide technical and administrative assistance to the National Bank in the form of training for detecting counterfeit euro coins to the experts from our National Bank.
The National Bank has implemented, independently and in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, a number of activities to strengthen the capacities of the system for suppression of money counterfeiting with special emphasis on prevention against counterfeiting euros. This Arrangement reaffirms the National Bank commitment to promote cooperation with the European institutions in this field.
