Great response to the public call for participation in the European Money Quiz
The response to the public call for participation in the European Money Quiz suggests that during the following months the students from our country will flip through the pages of books on money and finances more, and that they will be financially educated. Although this quiz is held for the first time in our country, the interest is much greater than expected. 136 classes from the primary and secondary schools from the Republic of Macedonia responded to the call for participation in this quiz. This means that about 3,000 children from the entire country in the following period will devote more attention to education in the field of finance and economics, which will raise the financial literacy of the young population, as an important aspect for developing quality staff in the future. The organizer of this quiz in the country, whose aim is to promote financial education of young people from thirteen to fifteen, is the Macedonian Banking Association, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science, the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
What money is, who issues it, where and how one saves money - these are only part of the questions that teenagers from our country will have to answer. They will have to understand also the concept of credit, interest, profit, shares, where and how they are bought or sold, how to protect themselves against computer fraud... many questions whose answers, the persons responsible for the future of our country - young people will have to learn and master during the following months.
The quiz will take place in two phases - the first one includes the national championships in the participant countries, while the second one includes the final competition held in Brussels. In order to prepare the quiz better, the NBRM will hold a preparatory meeting and will give training to the teaching staff, i.e. the mentors of the students involved in the national competition.
The competition in Macedonia will start on 13 March when the first preparatory testing will be conducted in all classes of the registered schools, followed by the second one a week later. After these two tests, two students from each class who will show the best results on both tests will participate in the final national competition, which will be held in Skopje on 27 March during the European Money Week. After the final competition, the two winners who will represent the Republic of Macedonia in the European Money Quiz in Brussels, Belgium on 7 May this year, will be known. At both the national competitions and the ending in Belgium, the testing of the participants will be conducted in the mother tongue.
